Prompted by hearing the negativity in my close friend’s comments in viewing images of themselves, I was inspired to create a series of pieces using their features in a way that allowed them the space to enjoy being the muse of an art piece without self criticism of their likeness. Taking into account their mentions of most and least favorite of their own features, I took a series of images and extracted roughly equal proportions of each and rearranged them into abstract motifs, which were arranged into the larger overall composition. Originally displayed as print posters, an augmented reality experience of the process of their creation was included to expand upon the narrative inspiration for each abstract portrait. The augmented reality experience can be accessed by scanning the still image of each individual poster using the Artivive mobile app.
